Shalya Tantra is the specialized branch of Ayurveda that deals with surgical and para-surgical procedures, management of wounds, foreign bodies, abscesses, tumors, ulcers, and various orthopedic and anorectal conditions.

Rooted in the pioneering work of Acharya Sushruta, the father of surgery, Shalya Tantra reflects the brilliance of ancient surgical science — integrated with modern hygiene and holistic post-operative care.

Thus, Shalya Tantra is the branch of Ayurveda that involves surgical interventions as well as minimally invasive para-surgical therapies for conditions that cannot be treated through internal medicine alone. It is one of the Ashtanga (eight branches) of Ayurveda, elaborated in detail in Sushruta Samhita, which describes over 300 surgical procedures, 120 surgical instruments, and 8 types of surgical techniques.
